Bucket Brigade Presentation

Garden Fest 2013

Saturday April 20, 2013

8 a.m. till 2 p.m.

These events are planned in the coming months. Our efforts are directed toward helping people to start gardening. We'd love to have you join us as a participant or just to visit. Many of these are designed to teach folks specific gardening techniques- some are just for fun!

Get involved in gardening, come to one of these upcoming events!

Last year we had quite a crowd and a lot of fun! This year we are aiming even higher and will be adding activities that will be wholesome entertainment for the whole family. Join us for a day of family fun!

Garden Tours - Kite Flying - A Special Visit by GREEN MAN! - Live Music - Barbecue- Garage Sale - Art Show- Gardening Demonstrations - Craft Sale - Build a Birdhouse - Plant Sale - Prizes - Representatives from local gardening groups will also be attending...more details to come.

The Bucket Brigade, a joint venture with the Community Health and Resource Group (CHARG!) a committee of Foothills Transition will be doing a container garden workshop at The Catawba Science Center as a part of their Touch O' The Green Family Day in Hickory. We recently trained fifteen people how and why to start bucket gardening. We will be displaying container gardening techniques and teaching families how to get started and talking about the many reasons this technique can be useful as a way to grow their own food. Great for kids and families!

We are planning an expansion of our demonstration garden located at 105 Virginia St. SE in Lenoir this winter. Help us to build, setup and plant our raised beds and container gardens and learn how to get your own garden at home started. We will demonstrate the process and help you on your way to food security while helping families in need in our community. You will learn how to construct a raised bed or container garden, what and when to plant, drip irrigation techniques, pest control strategies, and how to feed your plants. We need volunteers- no special skills or tools are required. Dates to be announced.

We will be installing a container Gardening Display at Yokefellow Ministries' offices in Lenoir, an emergency service provider serving Caldwell County. Our goal is to inspire Yokefellow's clients to begin gardening as a way of developing food resilience that will help them to eat better and allow them to redirect some of their finacial resources. We would love to have your help in building and maintaining this installation. Additionally, we hope to do some hands-on demonstrations, helping their clients to start container gardens. April and May- dates to be announced.
